Responsive mobile websites are not separate entities to your desktop website, they simply respond to certain conditions, mainly screen sizes. A normal desktop-only website will load on most screen sizes and a visitor using a tablet or mobile can zoom in on the areas that they are interested in. So how do we overcome this? Technology provides the answer. At Webster Digital, our mobile websites are optimised for visitors using the latest smartphones and tablets. This involves different layouts being created for different devices. Our websites are mobile-friendly from the core, utilising responsive technologies to create different website layouts to suit all screen sizes.
In our websites, each page usually has six layouts:
Desktop Ultra-Wide (1280 pixels plus), Desktop Standard (960 pixels plus), Tablet Landscape, Tablet Portrait, Mobile Landscape and Mobile Portrait.
This responsive technology allows us to use code so that the smartphone and tablet layouts do not require switching on, they are part of the site and only become active if a user views the website on a mobile device. As with all good technology, it’s quick, easy and invisible unless required.
Layouts for smartphones and tablets are generally simplified versions of the standard layout design, but the content is optimised for viewing on those smaller screen sizes. We crunch the image sizes down so that the layouts load quickly on mobile networks and enlarge text so that everything is easy to read on all screens.
